I agree - page compression, good caching rules, use of externally hosted files (CloudFront is so low cost these days) are all a huge help. We simply wanted to post this blog entry to help people understand that response time != CPU utilization, an unfortunate misconception in the industry.

We simply wanted to post this blog entry to help people understand that response time != CPU utilization, an unfortunate misconception in the industry.</p>

		<description>This is all well and good if you are only handling new requests to the site. If the user moves to a second then having them start using connections that are not needed is a lot more painful.

Proper caching of images and CSS go a long way to limit connections as well as decent minify/gzipping of CSS/JavaScript as well as spriting of images also goes very far to limit connections.
